50KM, 3800m UP
A special North to South Traverse of this classic mountain route. Suitable for ultra-runners.
North - South Traverse
This is a challenging itinerary across a stunning route, and perfect training for ultramarathons and mountain challenges.
Is it for me?
The plan is to fast-hike & occasionally slow jog. If you are unsure if you will be suited please get in touch. It is excellent training and preparation for UTS UTMB, 14 Peaks Ultra, Dragon's Back Race, Welsh 1000m Peaks Race and any mountain ultramarathon.
Prerequisites
Experience of moving efficiently in the mountains, along with some experience of scrambling.
To give you an idea of fitness we suggest the following targets. Note these are only ball-park targets and don’t account for how you move over difficult terrain on tired legs. You may be an accomplished trail/mountain runner who has never done a half marathon, so don't read too much into this.
Road-runners find these targets useful:
Sub-13hr Target
● Half-marathon: sub 1hr 35 min
● Marathon: sub 3hr 30 min
These targets are guidelines, and assume a relatively flat course. They are also no guarantee, the terrain and the ascent/descent is punishing.
